Often referred to as Iceland's second city, Akureyri offers an array of cultural attractions in a scenic setting.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Sat): see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour and then take in the dramatic scenery at Godafoss. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: get engrossed in the history at The Old Farmhouse Laufas, then get a taste of the local shopping with Linda Ola - Studio & Gallery, then contemplate the long history of Saurbaejarkirkja, and finally tee off at Akureyri Golf Club.

Visiting Nature & Wildlife Tours and Thingvellir National Park will get you outdoors. When in Reykjavik, make a side trip to see Thermal Spas in Grindavik, approximately 54 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Hallgrimskirkja, get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Iceland, and see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

You can do a combination of bus and flight from Reykjahlid to Reykjavik in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. August in Reykjavik sees daily highs of 16°C and lows of 9°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Fri) early enough to catch the flight to Skaftafell.
