One of the lovely large canals that form a ring around the old part of Amsterdam. Great to go along on a canal cruise or to walk along the side enjoying the wonderful buildings. more »
Prinsengracht is 1 of the 4 principle canals that make up the UNESCO World Heritage - Grachtengordel, a semi-circular group of parallel canals that form the Canal Ring in the city centre of Amsterdam. We recently visited Amsterdam and very much enjoyed quite a few walks along Prinsengracht. This is the outer most of Grachtengordel, it is a beautiful canal with restaurants, cafes, bars, coffee shops, boutique and other shops as well as important sightseeing like Anne Frank House and Westerkerk. One of the things we greatly enjoyed about areas of Prinsengracht during our mid-October visit were the turning of the leaves as Autumn foliage season finally arrived. There were some very nice spots just south of Westerkerk and a highly photogenic area at the Prinsengracht and Brouwersgracht. In the end, each of the Grachtengordel canals as well as the many smaller canals that patch together the city centre of Amsterdam, are enjoyable to visit and spend time. However, Prinsengracht may just be my favourite of the lot.
