Palau de la Musica Catalana, Barcelona

#2 of 4,547 in Nightlife in Spain
Each year more than half a million people enjoy the musical performances at Palau de la Musica Catalana, which was placed on the World Heritage List in 1997. Designed by architect Domenech i Montaner, this exquisitely ornamented structure was built between 1905 and 1908, and originally served as home to the Orfeo Catalá musical society. Widely regarded as a masterpiece of Catalan architecture, the building is a fine example of the Modernist style, featuring elements made of tiles, stones, and bricks. Try to attend a concert, but at the very least arrange to join a guided tour of the site’s famous auditorium, known for its blue-gold stained glass skylight and the sculpture of Wagner’s Valkyries. • It really is a palace. A very beautiful and unusual building. Buy tickets, especially in the season, you need in advance. We specifically came early in the morning to buy a ticket for a certain time. We went to watch with the tour in English.

  • Been to Barcelona a few times but not been in here before, it's pretty amazing though well worth a visit. If you don't want to pay to go on the tour though you can just visit the beautiful cafe it's very good, best coffee we had and not expensive. Had limited time in Barcelona but was thrilled we toured. The guide spoke quickly and of course with her accent was difficult to understand at times, but the facility is lovely.
  • Oh my Heavens! This place is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I attended an Opera/Flamenco Fusion performance and it was SPECTACULAR!! The entire experience brought me to tears. The beauty of the venue and the passionate performances. There is a bar inside where drinks and tapas are available. I HIGHLY recommend this theatre. If a performance is not available inquire about a tour of the venue itself. It's worth it!!
