Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Catalonia / Province of Barcelona / Barcelona / Mercat Santa Caterina
Go shopping at this vibrant food market. Mercat Santa Caterina has been in operation since 1848 and is still very popular today. You can immediately recognize the market by its iconic bright wavy roof. Mingle with locals doing their weekly shopping and pick up some fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, and meat. Some Spanish olive oil makes a great souvenir. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop for a bite to eat at one of the tapas restaurants that open onto the market. I'm glad to have it so handy every day.
Típico merca de Barcelona, que destaca por la cubierta, bonita, colorida y perfecta para echarle un par de fotos si estamos de turismo por la ciudad. more »Typical merchant of Barcelona, which stands out for the cover, beautiful, colorful and perfect to take a couple of photos if we are visiting the city.
An amazing place to stop in for any type of snack or grocery. On vacation from California, enjoyed sampling a bunch of different foods. The food is fresh, the vendors are friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely. I would have liked to have tried on of the bars near the sides or the location. Very cool social atmosphere.
Most shops were closed on holiday. You won't find the touristy shops you get in Boqueria, they have mostly high quality produce in the shops. I bought some great spices in one of the shop. The roof is also amazing. Five stars if most shops were open!
