Lithuanian Sea Museum, Klaipeda

#1 of 6 in Museums in Klaipeda
Set in a restored 19th-century fort, Lithuanian Sea Museum and its onsite aquarium explores humans' relationship with the ocean and the life of marine animals. In rooms that were once gunpowder storage cellars, visitors can admire ship models and archaeological artifacts accompanied by informational displays about Lithuanian seafaring. Exhibits on the history of marine life tackle subjects such as evolution, the fauna of the sea, and dangerous ocean creatures, both real and legendary. At the aquarium, you can meet a diverse array of fish including freshwater species, creatures from the Baltic Sea, and tropics dwellers. Outdoor pools are home to seals, sea lions, and penguins, and the adjoining dolphinarium hosts dolphin shows. Check for show times when you arrive. • Beautiful sand dunes, especially the bare trees full of cormorants I found unique. After climbing a 60 m high dune we descended to the pretty village of Nida. Highly recommended. Also the witches ' hill with lots of wooden statues is nice, it will certainly appeal to the children too. Be sure to go to the high House of the German writer Thomas Mann (the house is paying). All the trouble for the view!.

  • The best impressions. A very interesting exhibition, of course, a magnificent aquarium. A huge landscaped area. Convenient parking next to the entrance to the museum. Well done!

  • It's a fun park, it has enough things to do for a few hours and is suitable for the whole family. There were a lot of cute and cool sea creatures, and it was more like a zoo than a museum. There is also a part of the place that is dedicated to ships, although I didn't go there.
  • Informative and interactive fun. You can spend there couple of hours, learn few, new things about sea world, watch live fishes in aquariums, varying from Lithuanian to tropical ones. Also you can enjoy some of the animals such as seals, sea lions and penguins upclose. Museum itself is located in old German fortifications which is also very interesting. Recommended.
