Discover Bali's spiritual side by visiting Uluwatu Temple, offering some of the finest ocean views on the island. One of six holiest shrines in Bali, this structure sits on the edge of rocky cliffs rising dramatically over the sea's foaming waves. Much of the current shrine probably dates back to the 11th century, when a Javanese sage expanded and improved a preexisting but much smaller structure. A band of monkeys inhabits the temple--watch out they don't snatch your purse or other belongings. Though non-Hindu visitors cannot enter the inner temple, they're free to hike around the area. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Pecatu holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Uluwatu Temple and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

The big draw is it's stunning location as it's built on the edge of a 230ft cliff which protrudes into the sea. For this reason it is a very popular at sunset and is known to get quite busy however... more »

Nice scenery. Evening time is a best time. View is amazing. Men will have to wear cloth if you wearing shorts. Go with full pant. Enjoy the place and evening.
Temple hopping in Bali never fails to amazed me. And Uluwatu Temple is everything. Beautiful scenery of the ocean. Harmless monkeys everywhere who would walk along with you (just be careful of anything that they can grab from you like glasses, phones or caps/hats). Serene and peaceful temple. I went here with a tour guide and we spent almost 3 hours roaming around the place. I waited till sunset, and it was one beautiful sunset that I will never forget. You could just stay here, watch the people, see the ocean or pray. Well maintained temple. Overall experience was unexplainable. Happy memories. Note: you need to wear a sarong if your legs are visible. These sarong are free, and must be returned.
