Tanah Lot Temple, Beraban
Built onto a giant offshore rock, Tanah Lot Temple remains one of the more venerated Hindu structures with strong ties to Balinese mythology. One of seven significant sea temples spread across Bali's coastline, this shrine is allegedly the work of Dan Hyang Nirartha, a 16th-century religious figure and traveler who founded the island's Shaivite priesthood. Though you can walk to the rock during low tide, keep in mind that non-Balinese visitors cannot enter the temple itself. The site--one of the most photographed in Bali--draws huge crowds at sunset, when soft light bathes the area and creates a nearly magical atmosphere. A very beautiful place. Vey clean and well maintained. Enjoyed the experience of seeing something so old but very respected more »
A must visit temple. Your way in (and out) is through many shops and stalls, selling the same. Be early, before the bus loads of tourists. Preferably with low tide, however high tide also gives interesting photo opportunities. Very touristy, but in essence the temple on the rock is worth the trip. Be aware you can’t visit the actual temple area, as it is closed for tourists. Read the story about the temple and also enjoy the other temples in the vicinity. For Bali standards it is very well setup (sidewalks, parking, clean) and very well maintained. The sunset is amazing.
Amazing place. It comes to its own with waves crashing across the cliffs and rocks. The view of Tanah lot temple against the picturesque background of Indian Ocean will soothe your eyes and mind alike. Despite the fact that tourists are not allowed to enter the temple, it remains crowded throughout the day. Bali has a lot of contenders for best sunset views, and Tanah lot is surely at the top with them. The adjoining cliffs and caves also are a wonderful addition to its beauty. While at it, try and have a walk around and you will find shops teeming with some amazing artwork.
