Famous for its vivid blue color and notoriously hard to find, Bruarfoss Waterfall gives a new meaning to the term "hidden gem." After an hour's drive from Reykjavik, you'll reach the waterfall via a hike on an unpaved and unmarked path. An adventure in its own right, the trail will have you hiking through mud and climbing over fences, but you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the sky-blue cascades. Enjoy the tranquil ambiance and take some postcard-worthy shots of the photogenic scenery. Bring appropriate footwear--the trek to the falls and back can get quite muddy and slippery. We couldn't get to the falls by car in march. Some of the roads that are mentioned in other post looked to be closed for the winter season. There is a parking lot which looks to be a 1 hour hike to..... more »
The only way to reach the Bruarfoss waterfall is to park at the official parking and walk to the waterfall. The other entrances are closed! It took us 1,5 hour to reach it but it was very slippery... more »
Bruarfoss is mesmerizing. There are three levels of the falls. It is recommended to go to the upper falls. The hike to Bruarfoss is not very difficult. It was little hard to find the exact parking location on Google maps. If you are visiting the falls then search for Bruarfoss official parking and then Google map will take you to the right spot.
Cool spot. Quite a hike to it, but it's pretty for most of the way. Be advised that the trail can be extremely and unpleasantly muddy if there has been some rain. Proper hiking shoes advised.
