It also served as a backdrop for the film, my Dutch bike, borrowing. It was built in 1636, then, in the village of Sloten. It was used to actuate the water pumping of the Riekerpolder polder. It was dismantled and reassembled in 1961, because it was an electric station that had resumed this action in 1932. It was reassembled some 8 km from its original location, South of the municipality of Amsterdam, during the excavation of the polder to create the Lake Het Nieuw Meer. The mill and pumping station drained 515 hectares, in the Buitenveldert zone.
Een veelgehoorde klacht over het bezoeken aan deze molen is dat het in zo'n uithoek van Amsterdam (Amstelveen) ligt. At the mill you are quickly ready, some pictures, a ' so this was the mill of Rembrandt moment ' and you go again. You can't get in there. But vlákbij this mill lies the Amstel Park, which is definitely worth a visit on a beautiful day. (There are also some catering establishments). And if you are travelling by car, you are in a few minutes drive along the Amstel and the polders (which can also be very pleasant) at Café restaurant Klein calf. This way you can make a nice outing from those few minutes in a corner. And maybe a nice tidbit: Although this mill is inhabited, the watering can still use the mill to manage the water level and pump water away from the inland dike Buitenveldertse Polder.
I recommend a tour to visit De Riekermolen, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Magnificent Mills
This a beautiful spot right by the Amstel river. It is a pleasent walk from the Amsterdam RAI metro stop. The walk goes through Amstel park then along the the river.
