R.K. Kerk van de HH. Petrus en Paulus, Amsterdam

4.5
Located in a pedestrianized shopping area, R.K. Kerk van de HH. Petrus en Paulus remains a secret architectural gem of Amsterdam, frequently overlooked even by the most ardent building buffs. Dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and nicknamed "De Papegaai" (The Parrot) because a bird-trader's house once stood right in front of it, this is one of two parochial Catholic churches in the city. The 1848 building features a grand Neo-Gothic facade, with stone sculptures of Saint Joseph and a perched parrot flanking the main door. The church offers Dutch-language services during the week and Latin mass with Gregorian chants on Sunday. For R.K. Kerk van de HH. • The church in Kalverstraat, a shopping street, has a very narrow frontage and is integrated with the buildings on both sides, so it's likely to be overlooked, but the facade is the church itself. The design such as the mosaic painting is comparatively new feeling, and it might not be so old church?

  • We found it by chance, it's a beautiful catholic church.
  • Love taking 15 min out of the hustle and bustle of the city to spend a quiet time with God
