R.K. Kerk van de HH. Petrus en Paulus, Amsterdam

4.5
Located in a pedestrianized shopping area, R.K. Kerk van de HH. Petrus en Paulus remains a secret architectural gem of Amsterdam, frequently overlooked even by the most ardent building buffs. Dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and nicknamed "De Papegaai" (The Parrot) because a bird-trader's house once stood right in front of it, this is one of two parochial Catholic churches in the city. The 1848 building features a grand Neo-Gothic facade, with stone sculptures of Saint Joseph and a perched parrot flanking the main door. The church offers Dutch-language services during the week and Latin mass with Gregorian chants on Sunday. For R.K. Kerk van de HH. • In the shopping street that branches out from Piazza Dam hides this small little church. externally is not reported if it is not for a parrot from which it takes its name. unfortunately it is hidden among the insignia of the various franchises of consumerism and looks very small with narrow entrance, in fact the interior is large, spacious and very well cared for.
