  • One of the most beautiful buildings in the art nouveau style in Amsterdam, built according to the project of the father of the Dutch Art Nouveau Hendrik Berlage in 1899-1903. Well lived unions Jewish Jewelers in the country. the present Castle in the city centre with spectacular stained glass Windows and chandeliers. interesting murals on the walls of Roland Holst. trade unions museum ticket cost only 2.5 euros and it is possible to visit from 11 am until day 17, just 10 minutes from Waterloo Square. When I was only a couple of people tourists, many do not know about such a masterpiece.

  • Berlage designed around 1900 an impressive building for the General Dutch diamond cutters Union lead bond. In this building, the castle called, shows the architect are special design qualities and the construction workers were able to showcase their skills. Berlage was inspired by the medieval Italian Council houses, such as the Palazzo Publico in Siena. The building came into being in a time of great change on artistic and socio-economic area. Berlage, the painter Roland Holst and others strove to an art which had to be accessible for the people. That the financing of such a building by the diamond workers, mainly Jewish, is brought up is thanks to Henri Polak, the progressive President of the League. Polak developed at that time, new strategies for the cultural and social workers to rise up, a nice building paste in that ideology. In World War II, some 2,000 members by the Germans carried away never to return. The current owner, the Association Hendrick de Keyser has in 2010 the castle restored. The original design is restored and the interiors are designed in detail by Berlage restored where possible. This week my wife and I had a very successful tour in this striking building. The Socialist interior architecture in the Council room has impressed on us We were surprised by the socially engaged murals of Roland Holst and have admired the beautifully designed lamps that hang in multiple places in the building.

  • Attended a workshop in the building, it was really quiet and a great space to be in.
  • Very nice building full of history. Great for meetings, workshops, seminars, exhibits, and medium-sized gatherings.
