The woman behind the counter seemed a bit arrogant to me, but the shop was close to the hotel, so we stayed. She gave us uncontrolled bikes. We are both relatively tall, and an employee? Ejun us the seats, understanding neither English nor Dutch. Until he finally understood then that the seats have to go up, and not down, I had def. A bad feeling, but we had already paid for 24 hours, 30 euros with insurance extra, 7 euros, the Depo 100 euros from the credit card had already withdrawn without it informing us, we only noticed later. So we took the wheels for our tour. On the way to the islands I realized that something was arriving at the wheel, with time more and more, I didn't find out what at first. With my husband, however, the seat slowly but steadily slid down until it was at the bottom at the end, and my husband had his knees at the rib cage while driving, which was quite exhausting. We had to look for a business that put the seat back up, which cost us a lot of time. Then went a bit further until the lock came loose at the back of me and got into the spokes. Luckily, I wasn't driving too fast. I couldn't go on any more, and we had to pick up scissors in a restaurant to cut off the one plastic band where the rear lock was ribcating-the other plastic ribbons, we suspect, had been cut before. Never before have I seen such locks mounted this way, they are usually always screwed on!! We had never left the bikes unattended, so no one could have made it happen. After these arduous breakdowns, we were forced to turn back to business. And thought the woman apologizes and gives us new bikes. Ha, far from it! When we told her about our problems with the uncontrolled and bad bikes, she again reacted arrogantly, and came up with strange excuses. She didn't take us seriously and dismissed us as Deppen until I popped her detached lock on the counter. Then she started berating us more cruder. I am often in Amsterdam, there half Dutchwoman, and rent a bike every time. For thirty years. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Not only was the woman primitive, the bikes were dangerous, there could have been an accident, nor did we get our money back. Our beautiful afternoon was gone, and I am writing here to warn others about this business. The woman was overweight, had dark eyes and long dark hair. I photographed the shop from the inside out of sheer frustration to warn others. In the evening we suddenly got violent threats from her on Whatsapp as we had to provide a number on the rental contract. You can get a real worry. There are other shops that are professional and friendly, the AMSTEL BIKE is a demolition.

The lady behind the counter is very unpleasant, and who does not seem to like the French... (according to his words..)
We were renting bikes here during our stay in Amsterdam. Even though the price list said 14,50€ per bike they charged us 15€ which we noticed too late. We got our bikes straight from people who just returned them. They did not check them or anything they just handed them out to us. The next day when we started our tour, we noticed one bike was a little bit damaged at the back wheel. It didn’t went straight but it was still possible to use it so we just went on. When we returned them they told us that we broke the wheel and we would have to pay for a replacement. We explained the situation and also mentioned that we got the bikes without a check from other people the other day but the lady told us they checked them ( which is a lie, because we were at the shop the whole time). So they charges us 30€ extra for a damage we did not even cause. I will not go here again and I wouldn’t recommend this shop to others.
I was parking my bike when the lady working threw her garbage (drink can) on the pavement and left. I asked her kindly to pick it up and she said she lives there and thats what they do. I told her that wasn't right and then started yelling at telling me to shut up in a very intense way. I filed a complaint under her name as I also have evidence on this matter. Wanted to share here as well in case you want to not shop from this business. Addition after the owners response: You are not only disrespectful but also a liar. Happily I have evidence. You also told me in 'Netherlands' you put your garbage on the floor and also that area was for garbage. This was what we discussed and you left it there. (I even told you that the ares on pavements are for larger garbage pieces on some days of the week) Also you have no right to give me advice on what is acceptable and what is not as you have no idea how long I have been living here.
