  Was on a private Tour by Locals. Was able to see the Avery and Cartegena too. More interesting when you are with a Guide able to point things out. Dan did just that. Was able to enjoy the visit...  more »

  Excellent aviary with some fascinating bird species! Don't miss the show and explanations, they were great! Excellent facilities and it really feels like the birds are well looked after. Well worth the day trip out from Cartagena, but best to get there early as it is all outdoors and gets HOT...

  We thoroughly enjoyed the National Aviary. However, the tour we took had us there in the middle of the day, which, as any birding enthusiast knows, is when most wildlife are the least active, and as any photographer would know, is the worst lighting for making beautiful images. Still, I thought it was a well thought out aviary, with a path that guided us through various environments that showcased a wide variety of birds. Some of the birds weren't in the greatest condition, having lost many feathers either in fights, from being in captivity for so long, or just not being well cared for. But some of the birds were absolutely beautiful to watch. Regardless, this is the best and easiest way to view a wide variety of Colombia's diverse bird population if your trip is on limited time.
